The 2019 growing season marked Pennsylvania’s first legal hemp harvest in 82 years. I spent a few days with Floyd Landis, a reformed Mennonite from Lancaster. Floyd is an ex-pro cyclist, famous for the whistleblower case that exposed Lance Armstrong’s doping scandal. Depressed from having his Tour de France win stripped from him, Floyd turned to marijuana to get himself off opiates after a hip surgery. Floyd has run a successful weed and CBD business in Colorado and recently moved CBD operations back to his hometown to control and streamline all means of production. Most of Floyd’s farmers are Amish, interested in growing hemp to replace tobacco as a new cash crop. Published as a long form photo essay in Bicycling Magaine.
